CORE VALUES

My favorite word, professional motto, and ethical approach perfectly express my core values.

Firgun (or Firgun factor)
The first time I encountered this word was in Grazyna Plebanek’s book Words Describing Happiness and Other Unnamed States of the Soul. It immediately struck me as the very term I had been searching for over decades! The book explores words from various languages that are difficult—or even impossible—to translate, yet, in the author's view, these words carry profound meaning and can truly enrich the world.

My favourite word Firgun (illustrative)

Firgun originates from modern Hebrew (פירגון) and is a unique term that doesn’t have a perfect English equivalent. In everyday speech, it describes the act of taking genuine, unselfish delight in someone else’s success. Rather than be jealous or envying someone’s achievements, firgun embodies a wholehearted celebration of others’ accomplishments.

When you feel firgun, you’re not just offering a passing compliment—you’re experiencing a deep sense of joy for the other person. So do I.

“I work with people using technology, not with technology using people”—my professional motto

I'm a people-centric person. I always remind others that even if we are involved in a deeply technical initiative, at the end of the day there are always some people who will use the solution. And we have to think about them. More than that, we need to respect not only the end users, but also everyone around us.

People-centric (illustrative)

I'm convinced that real respect for others is a key to good cooperation. That doesn't mean we can't have differences of opinion or substantive disagreements. They stimulate discussion and can lead to potentially better solutions. But being respectful helps to find the best way to consensus quickly.

Another facet of my focus on people is that I am always looking for opportunities to try and learn, and to create a safe environment for others to do the same. As a result, the people I mentor at work are more eager to grow, and I'm super proud of their accomplishments.

Ethical Conduct and Professional Standards
As a certified practitioner I adhere to the IIBA Code of Ethical Conduct and Professional Standards that makes me a trustworthy professional. I keep my expertise current, so I only provide services in areas where I'm fully competent. When I recommend professionals, they are only reputable peers. I act with integrity—providing honest, accurate information in all communications—and I respect the confidentiality and security of sensitive information.

Ethical Conduct (illustrative)

In short, my commitment to these principles ensures that I consistently earn and maintain the trust that is placed in me. Which I believe is a key to success in these VUCA times.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

My career path to becoming a professional Business Analyst began when someone offered me the opportunity to pivot. It wasn’t merely a chance—it unfolded in a secure, try-and-learn environment, enriched by the mentor-like support of my new manager. Embracing this approach has enabled me to help numerous people transition or advance in their careers over the years. This is why I truly believe in the power of giving back to the community.

Volunteering (illustrative)

One expression of my commitment is active involvement with the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) Poland Chapter. Just a few of my activities:
- Mentor in the Mentoring Program
- Tutor within the BABOK® Guide Study Group
- Speaker during a specialized webinar on the BACCM Model and the BABOK® Guide Framework
- Host of the IIBA Poland Summit
- Co-Moderator on a discussion panel at the IIBA Poland Summit

PORTFOLIO—GDPR
(GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION)

Challenge/Opportunity: Initiative to prepare the international not-for-profit organization for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) by evaluating selected processes, including those that process sensitive data.

Role: Business Analyst reporting directly to the Board of Members

Summary: By leveraging my strategic thinking and working closely with Board Members and legal team, I turned the challenges of GDPR into a clear strategy. PORTFOLIO—DIGITALIZATION

PORTFOLIO—MAJOR ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTOR

Challenge & Opportunity: One of the largest distributors of electric power in Poland needed to introduce one common system to manage their documentation. The company was formed by the merger of 6 separate companies, each of which produced documentation in its own way. A large amount of scattered historical technical documentation was in need of organization and classification. The analysis was intended to enable the company to implement a DMS class software.

Role: External Business Systems Analyst

Summary: I led a transformative analysis. I assessed the existing document management model—both digital and paper-based—and developed recommendations for a common classification system, metadata standards, and streamlined procedures for document digitization and archive management. My work laid the critical foundation for implementing a modern Document Management System (DMS), ensuring the company was well-positioned for future digital transformation.

Key Contributions & Phases:
1. Scope Analysis: Analysis of current document management model to understand scope and complexity of change for both digital and paper documentation.

2. Defining Strategy: Recommendation for uniform classification, including metadata, to be used as a description of each document.

3. Defining Processes: Recommendation of processes for maintenance of classification model, filing rules, digitization and organization of paper archive.

4. Defining Software Needs: Recommendation of industry and business specific requirements for new DMS.

5. Formalization of process recommendations: Creation of a set of procedures and processes.

PORTFOLIO—SPECIALIZED ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTOR

Challenge & Opportunity: The nationwide electricity distributor specializing in powering rail network in needed to implement a one common system to manage their documentation. The company consisted of 9 branches, which supervised the provision of services in the designated area of the country. Technical documentation was created in dozens of field units operating under these branches. The way documentation was created varied from branch to branch. A small percentage of the documentation was created digitally. Many documents were stored and updated for decades so that historical data would not be lost. The analysis was intended to enable the company to implement a DMS class software.

Role: External Business Systems Analyst

Summary: I performed a transformational analysis. I evaluated the existing document management model and developed recommendations for a common classification system, metadata standards, and streamlined processes for document digitization and records management. Challenges included learning the specifics and needs of the rail industry and working with very old, poor quality documents. In addition, the digitization processes had to be designed to ensure uninterrupted access to technical documentation, which could be needed in the event of a power outage in the area, and had to be kept up to date. My recommendation laid the foundation for the implementation of a modern document management system (DMS), ensuring that the company was well positioned for future digital transformation.

PORTFOLIO—PROCESS OPTIMIZATION

PORTFOLIO—FTE REDUCTION

Challenge & Opportunity: The international not-for-profit organization decided to reduce FTEs by as much as 25%. Headquarters made only a few decisions about specific areas of operations where things had to be done the same way all over the world. For the rest, headquarters suggested areas that had the potential for significant process simplification and left the final decision to the local boards. The Board was asked to evaluate these suggestions in light of local specifics and needs.

Role: Business Analyst reporting directly to the Board of Members

Summary: I conducted an analysis of selected areas of operations, focusing specifically on processes that were performed manually without the support of digital solutions. I introduced metrics that helped measure the processes before and after the changes were made. The analysis was supported by extensive interviews and observations with subject matter experts. Changes were implemented in an agile manner to ensure the continuity of the organization's operations and to avoid an uncontrolled decline in the quality of tasks performed.

Key Contributions & Phases:
1. Analysis of the Current State: Observation and interviews to understand current processes.

2. Documentation of the Current State: Process mapping, introduction of KPI's and finding places that need optimization or simplification.

3. Recommendation of Process Changes: Simplification, optimization, digitalization or combination of different processes under the supervision of a specific area.

4. Evaluation of Transition to Future State: Reporting of KPI's and recommendations for corrections in the plan.

5. Documentation of Future State: Documentation of the final state after the transition and recommendation of the approach for future adjustments in the strategy.

PORTFOLIO—WAREHOUSE DIGITALIZATION

Challenge/Opportunity: A bank with 600 branches across Poland manually manages a central warehouse for office and marketing supplies. Although the collection of orders from branches for delivery of materials is done in the bank's system, the transfer of orders to the warehouse, tracking of orders and courier shipments, and inventory management are done without the support of digital tools. The goal of the initiative was to improve processes by building an IT system to manage the central warehouse and integrate it with the bank's ordering platform.

Role: Product Owner/Business Systems Analyst

Summary: This initiative was a great challenge for me. On the one hand, it was about analyzing manual warehouse processes and finding a way to optimize them in such a way that digital support could be introduced. On the other hand, it was also an opportunity to create a vision of something bigger—a tool that connects three players: a bank, a warehouse operations provider and a courier company. The result was a software solution that not only improved the processes themselves, but also reduced risk and increased end-to-end process visibility.

Key Contributions & Phases:
1. Analysis of the process flow in the bank and the warehouse operations service provider.

2. Recommendation of process optimization and presentation of the solution vision.

3. Definition of warehouse system requirements taking into account the specifics of the warehouse service provider. Design of solution mockups and process flow in the system.

4. Definition of requirements for integration of the new solution with the bank system and the courier service provider system.

5. Supervision of the implementation up to the operational solution start.

PORTFOLIO—END-TO-END PROCESS OPTIMIZATION

Challenge/Opportunity: A mobile operator from Poland was faced with the challenge of streamlining the process of handling paper documents produced in sales offices. These documents were sent in their original form to an company that was contracted to perform part of the process of digitizing the documents and describing them with metadata. The digitized documents went into the mobile operator's DMS, while the originals were transferred to an external archive for further storage. The challenge was to reduce the time to complete processing of the documents, the volume of which was 1M+ per month.

Role: Business Systems Analyst

Summary: Due to the tight SLA of the document handling process, the initiative required more than a minor process adjustment. I proposed changes from the very beginning of the document lifecycle, from the moment the documents are generated in the mobile operator's system and prepared for dispatch at the sales offices. On the side of the company that performs document processing and digitization, I proposed reversing and automating the process of describing documents with metadata, which eliminated downtime in the process. I also developed a process-sealing strategy for the mobile operator by proposing changes to their CRM-class system, including those for end-to-end document tracking. As a result of the initiative, the SLA is beginning to be met.

Key Contributions & Phases:
1. Process flow analysis to define points for optimization.

2. Detailed analysis of KPIs on the part of the company performing document processing and digitization, and simulations of changes in KPIs for different variants of process changes.

3. Defining functional and non-functional requirements for the solution. Designing mock-ups of the solution and improved process flow in the system.

4. Defining the long-term vision of the target solution.

5. Supervision of solution build and operational implementation.

PORTFOLIO—OTHER

PORTFOLIO—ISO 20022 PAYMENTS

Challenge/Opportunity: Upgrade of the payment processing platform that enables one of the biggest Swiss bank to process their SWIFT, SEPA, domestic SIC/SIX schemes payments, and internal ISO 20022 based payments (XML). Ensuring compliance with the new SIC/SIX standard was the primary objective.

Role: proxy Product Owner in SAFe and team Scrum Master

Summary: I conducted in-depth analysis, assessed the impact on domain systems, and recommended changes to business rules to improve efficiency and compliance. This project required collaboration with international teams located around the globe. In addition, due to the composition of the platform layers, it was necessary to quickly gain an understanding of the various system payments in order to properly assess the impact.

Key Contributions & Phases:
1. Analysis of changes to the complex platform, the operation of which is based on the simultaneous overlaying of several layers of different international payment systems and thousands of business rules.

2. Rulebook analysis to assess the impact of changes expected by the clearing house on the operation of the entire platform.

3. Analysis of the impact of the change on dozens of the bank's domain systems.

4. Recommendation of changes to the business rules.

PORTFOLIO—DIGITAL EMPLOYEE DOCUMENTATION

Challenge/Opportunity: One of the largest providers of business process outsourcing (BPO) and data digitization solutions in Poland decided to create a system that would enable a digital archive of employee records. This was a move to stay ahead of the competition, as at the time of the initiative, Polish legislation did not allow for digitization in this area. The solution was to be ready for future legislative changes.

Role: Product Owner/Business Systems Analyst

Summary:
It was a great challenge to create a strategy for a vision that seemed impossible to achieve due to legal restrictions. But deep dive into HR processes not only gave me full understanding of how their world works on daily basis, but also enriched my discussion with legal department. And as a result, it helps me find a specific way to deliver a solution. Creating a solution that is ahead of its time is a very rewarding activity!

Key Contributions & Phases:
1. Analysis of current legislation related to employee records.

2. Detailed workshops with the HR team to map the processes implemented based on legal requirements and those not related to legislation.

3. Design of solution mockups and process flow in the system.

4. Definition of functional and non-functional requirements for the solution.

WHAT IS BUSINESS ANALYSIS?

The shortest definition of Business Analyst is “Change Enabler”. But you may wonder how it works?

Review following thought-provoking questions in context of your organization.

PROCESS EFFICIENCY

Process Efficiency (illustrative)
  • Do the processes in the organization work as expected? Can you clearly identify the areas that slow down the company's development? Do you know the real causes of inefficiency or the emergence of bottlenecks and their impact on productivity and costs?

  • A business analysis practitioner helps you clearly understand where change is needed, actively identifying gaps in how your organization currently operates and uncovering missed opportunities to improve processes and outcomes.

VISION, STRATEGY, GOALS

Vision, Strategy, Goals (illustrative)
  • Do we have a clear vision and development strategy? Are the goals of your company precise enough, documented, and communicated at all levels of the organization? Do you know which of the current initiatives have the greatest potential for success and which ones generate risk?

  • A business analysis practitioner helps you leverage expertise across all levels to drive strategic change and ensures your approach is holistic—from defining enterprise architecture and strategy to setting detailed project goals—thereby maximizing stakeholder value.

BUSINESS RESILIENCE

Business Resilience (illustrative)
  • Are we capable of responding quickly to market and competitive changes? Does the company maintain its momentum when new trends or risks emerge? Are you able to swiftly adjust the strategy to the changing environment, or do you rely on traditional methods that do not always match the dynamics of change?

  • A business analysis practitioner helps you by providing the specialized insight needed to navigate uncharted territory. Their expertise empowers your internal teams to confidently steer the organization during times of rapid change and uncertainty, ensuring you reach your desired destination.

DATA-DRIVEN DECISION MAKING

Data-Driven Decision Making (illustrative)
  • Do we struggle with determining the priorities for projects and investments? Are resource-related decisions based on a thorough analysis of potential returns, or are they made more intuitively? Can you assess which actions will have the greatest impact on the company's development?

  • A business analysis practitioner helps you effectively track benefits and avoid costs by ensuring that your methods for measuring the outcomes of your initiatives are robust enough to realize true benefits, identify new opportunities, and prevent unnecessary expenses.

COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION

Collaboration and Communication (illustrative)
  • Is the data on which we base our decisions sufficient and reliable? Do you have robust tools that enable you to make strategic decisions? Does communication between departments and stakeholders run smoothly? What are the sources of any barriers or conflicts between departments that prevent you from acting cohesively in pursuit of the adopted strategy?

  • A business analysis practitioner helps you embed continuous improvement in your technology and process strategies by ensuring that you consistently evaluate and refine your processes to remain competitive, leveraging improved communication and external expertise to drive sustainable long-term improvement, when needed.

Each of these questions encourages a deep dive into the current state of your organization, helping to pinpoint areas where a business analyst’s expertise could not only guide your transformation efforts but also unlock untapped potential and value. No matter if you are for-profit business, non-profit, or government.
